“Within legal vapes or cartridges, could there be dangerous chemicals or additives similar to what we have heard about in the news?”

All legal cannabis products sold in Canada must go through a rigorous testing and approval process laid out by Health Canada. This includes all of the new product types that have become legal for sale in New Brunswick.

No cannabis extract is allowed to contain microbial or chemical contaminants beyond a tolerance limit deemed acceptable for human use. Speaking more specifically to vapes, the Cannabis Act states what can and cannot be included in extract used in a vaping product. The only ingredients allowed are: 1) carrier substances, 2) flavouring agents, and 3) substances necessary to maintain the quality or stability of the cannabis product. Any other ingredient cannot be included, unless it falls into those specified categories.

If you have any questions regarding your personal health and use of these new vaping products, be sure and consult a medical professional for advice specific to your situation.
